Parents
Welcome to the Indianapolis Public Schools!
What does Indianapolis Public Schools offer your child that no other school district can?
More magnet and option programs than any other Indiana school system. Specialized services to meet the needs of all children. Vocational education training that offers hands-on experiences leading to post-high school careers. Alternative programming that helps students who are challenged in traditional classrooms find academic success. Highly trained teachers who are sought after by school systems throughout Marion County. While IPS serves approximately 34,000 students, our goal is to provide individualized attention to each student, leading to increased student achievement and the elimination of achievement gaps district-wide.
Because increasing student achievement is IPS' number one goal, we use a variety of tools to enhance education, including:
1. Cutting edge technology, with each classroom wired for Internet access. Parents can track student attendance and grades on IPS Online, a web portal that also helps parents stay connected with teachers via email.
2. Full-Day Kindergarten classes aimed at better preparing students for the rigors of academics at subsequent grade levels. All IPS elementary schools offer full-day kindergarten classes.
3. More magnet programs than any other school district in Indiana. Students can choose from the following programs:
- Business and Finance
- Environmental Studies
- Foreign Language
- Health Professions
- Humanities
- Inquiry-based Learning
- International Baccalaureate
- Medical

- Multiple Intelligences
- Performing and Visual Arts

- Teacher Academy

4. Curriculum and Instructional Frameworks that align student learning to district, state and national standards. General IPS priorities, including multiculturalism, technology and career awareness, are central to the plan.
5. Seven channels of instructional programming, including Spanish classes and staff development.
6. Special Education programs that provide a continuum of services, from working with autistic youth to those with traumatic brain injury.
